If your senior is having vision changes, here\u2019s what you need to know and how home care solutions can help.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to notice vision changes in your senior is to make sure they get an eye exam every year. Your senior\u2019s eye doctor can make sure your loved one has an up-to-date glasses prescription, and can even detect certain eye conditions, like glaucoma.<\/p>\n<p>Observe your senior and see if they\u2019re having more trouble reading than usual. Do they have to get really close to signs or magazines in order to read them? If they drive, are they able to read signs from enough of a distance?<\/p>\n<p>You can also educate your loved one on signs of vision changes. As we age, lots of things about the body change, and some of them go unnoticed or are ignored. By checking in with your loved one and utilizing at home care solutions, you can catch signs of vision changes early.<\/p>\n<h3>Common Vision Changes and Conditions<\/h3>\n<p>Over half of American seniors have cataracts, which is when the lens inside your eye becomes cloudy. This causes blurred vision and can be treated with surgery to replace the lens.<\/p>\n<p>Glaucoma is another common vision condition, which happens when the nerve connecting the eye and the brain gets damaged. It often doesn\u2019t have many symptoms aside from a slow loss of vision &#8211; which is why it\u2019s important for your senior to see their doctor if they\u2019re noticing any loss of vision. Eye drops, laser treatment, and surgery can help to treat glaucoma, but if left untreated, it can lead to blindness.<\/p>\n<p>Macular Degeneration affects ones\u2019 central vision. This condition causes the fine detail and sharp edges of our vision to deteriorate, which can make it difficult to do daily tasks. It can also affect how we see color. Getting regular eye check-ups can allow your loved one\u2019s doctor to catch this condition quickly so that they can start treatment. While it can\u2019t be completely reversed, the degeneration can be slowed.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, there are many normal changes in vision as we get older and home care solutions are available to provide comfort and aide. For example, many seniors need reading glasses or even full-time glasses.
