6 Evening Rituals Caregivers Can Use to End Their Day

6 Evening Rituals for Caregivers | Evening rituals are just as important as morning rituals for the caregiver! In Part 2 of this three-part series, we talked about “5 Morning Rituals Caregivers Can Use to Jumpstart Their Day!” [Link: READ THE BLOG HERE]

In this post, Part 3, we see how evening rituals can help you wind down from your day as well. Rest and especially sleep is very important for the caregiver. But sleep can often be elusive! How do we put away our worries from the day – and from tomorrow – and clear our minds for sleep?

These 6 evening rituals for caregivers can help:

1. Reflect on Your Achievements – You did more than you think today, even if it doesn’t feel like it! Focus on what you accomplished, not what you didn’t. You can use your journal for this, too.

2. Prepare for Tomorrow – Make a mental list of what you want to accomplish tomorrow or write them down in your journal. Don’t worry about how you’ll accomplish all those things – the details can wait for tomorrow.

3. Tidy Up After the Day – This doesn’t have to be a “full clean”. Make sure the dishes are done, the counters are cleared, the living room is tidy, etc. The idea is to give yourself a calm and orderly environment to wake up to in the morning.

4. Prepare for the Morning – Speaking of which, do what you can to make things easier for you in the morning – especially if you’re not a morning person! Get the coffee maker set up, lay out your clothes, make lunches, etc. – anything you can do now so you don’t have to do it tomorrow.

5. Clear Your Mind – This is vital to help you get to sleep! There are different approaches for different people, so try many different ones including reading, light creative hobbies, listening to music, or going for a light stroll. Dim the lights an hour or so before you go to bed, too. The idea is to wind down and relax, and let go of the day’s problems.

6. Keep a Consistent Sleep Schedule – Your circadian rhythms can help if you stay in synch. That means getting up and going to sleep at the same time every day. Also, try optimizing your sleep conditions such as turning off blue lights a few hours before bed and keeping your bedroom on the chilly side.
You may not see results instantly when you start implementing your evening rituals. And, as mentioned above, not everything works for everybody. Experiment to find out what works best for you. You’ll start seeing positive results within 30 days!
