History
Starting the In-Home Care Service
The Comfort Keepers story began in 1998, when Kris Butler, a registered nurse working in home health care, saw a need: many clients needed help with non-medical tasks. As a nurse, she could only provide medical (skilled) care.
Many clients valued companionship most. They asked for small favours that made life easier. Help with laundry, a ride to a doctor’s appointment, or time together over a puzzle. They simply wanted someone to brighten their day with conversation and a helping hand at home.
Kris brainstormed with her family to find a name that captured the feeling they wanted to create. Kris’s daughter suggested “Comfort Keepers,” based on the goal: to keep clients comfortable at home, as an alternative to expensive nursing homes and senior facilities. And Comfort Keepers was born!
Since 1998, the company has grown from a dream to more than 700 locations worldwide. Today, Comfort Keepers provides uplifting in-home care to thousands of seniors each day. Comfort Keepers is available in 13 countries through independently owned and operated locations that make a difference in the lives of seniors and other adults in their communities.
The Comfort Keepers franchise system includes a large global network of caring individuals. Many owners came to Comfort Keepers after caring for a loved one. After seeing the difference in-home care can make to a senior’s quality of life, they wanted to be part of a culture of care.
Despite our growth, we remain as committed to quality as when we were founded in 1998. We meet high standards by recruiting great people, building a compassionate culture, and using new technology to improve our clients’ lives.
Industry leaders have recognized our quality and dedication to our mission. We are consistently recognized as a leader in senior home care.
