Over the past few weeks, we have watched and waited as the Covid-19 virus has made its way across the country.\u00a0 The Comfort Keepers team has been following the news and health advisories very carefully. As always, the health, safety and happiness of our clients, staff and community is our top priority.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/health-topics\/coronavirus\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">World Health Organization (WHO)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cCoronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain [of coronavirus] that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans.\u201d The virus appears as a respiratory condition. While Covid-19 can affect pretty much anyone, the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions are especially vulnerable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, cough, sneezing, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you or someone in your immediate circle develops these symptoms, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-self-assessment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">health agencies in Ontario<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are advising you to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Contact your primary care provider<\/strong> (for example, family doctor).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Contact Telehealth Ontario<\/strong> at 1-866-797-0000 and speak with a registered nurse.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-918 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.comfortkeepers.ca\/peterborough\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/128\/2022\/04\/Comfort-Keepers-Blog-Posts-3.png\" alt=\"WHO Covid 19 graphic\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>What does the arrival of Covid-19 in Peterborough mean for our Comfort Keepers?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many of our clients rely on the support of the Comfort Keepers staff. The care, assistance, and companionship we offer are critical to maintaining their quality of life and overall wellness. At this time, we are able to continue to offer that support. However, extra steps are being taken to make sure our Comfort Keepers, our clients, and our community are not being compromised.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our staff have all stepped up. We appreciate their dedication to their work and to keeping our clients and community healthy and safe. All staff are following all hygiene best practices. Additionally, we are screening ourselves and our clients before working together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Slowing the spread of the Covid-19 virus is possible.
