What is short-term live-in care?<\/h3>\n

The goal of short-term live-in care is to maintain the client\u2019s safety and comfort at home, enabling them to uninterruptedly go about their daily routine while receiving valuable assistance to complete various tasks. Our dedicated personal support workers, or PWS, can help your mom or dad with personal hygiene and bathing, prepare healthy meals, perform light homemaking chores, provide companionship for walks and mealtimes, medication reminders, transportation to medical checkups, and more.<\/p>\n

How does live-in care work?<\/h3>\n

Before scheduling short-term live-in care, you should prepare a separate, private area where our PSW can rest during their stay in their loved one\u2019s homes. You can expect Comfort Keepers to provide up to three personal support workers who can rotate every few days, as each caregiver can remain with your parent for multiple shifts.<\/p>\n

What does a PSW do during a live-in care shift?<\/h3>\n

Live-in care shifts generally cover 12-hour periods. This means that our PSW will provide around 4 hours of active daily care and another 8 hours of as-needed care. During this time, though the caregiver may rest, they will be ready to respond to any requests from your loved one. We can always adjust your live-in care plan and bring in additional PSWs if a caregiver is needed more than twice during their 8-hour downtime.<\/p>\n

Short-term live-in care is an ideal solution when seniors need care and assistance at home for up to several weeks. For instance, many clients need support when transitioning from hospital to home following a surgery or illness. In these cases, families often rather opt for short-term live-in care than regular post-hospital care.<\/p>\n

However, we understand that some seniors need extensive care, especially those with debilitating conditions such as Alzheimer\u2019s. For this reason, our Comfort Keepers PSW is also available to provide long-term live-in care whenever needed.<\/p>\n
