Frequently Asked Questions about Our In-Home Care Services

What is home care?

Home care refers to any type of care, whether medical or non-medical, that is provided to the patient directly in their own home, encompassing a range of services such as companionship and homemaking assistance, personal care support, nursing interventions, as well as speech, physical, or occupational therapies. These comprehensive services are designed to help maintain or enhance overall health and can be delivered on a temporary basis following a hospital discharge or on an ongoing basis should you require sustained assistance to adapt to an illness or injury.

Are services available 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Yes, our services are available for durations as brief as a few hours per visit right up to full-time coverage of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

Do you provide services to those in nursing homes or retirement homes?

Yes, Comfort Keepers can offer companionship or personal care services to residents in retirement homes, nursing homes, and hospitals who might desire supplementary attention or personalized care.

How much does in-home care cost?

Each Comfort Keepers office is independently owned and operated, so we encourage you to contact your local office directly to obtain a complete list of the products and services that are available, along with the corresponding rates specific to your area.

Is there a written plan of care for each client? Is it modified and if so, how often?

The local Comfort Keepers office develops an individualized and completely confidential Plan of Care for each client, with the primary purpose being to document the specific type of care services needed and the preferred timing for initiating such care. Once the client, family members, and local office have all agreed upon the Plan of Care, the office staff will use that information to recommend the most suitable Comfort Keeper® who will be responsible for delivering the service, to establish the schedule, and to agree upon the monitoring and communication protocols. Plans of Care are reviewed with the client and family at least every six months, as this review process is crucial to ensuring that the client is receiving the appropriate level of care and remains satisfied with the Comfort Keeper providing that care.

How are Comfort Keepers® selected?

Each caregiver is an employee who undergoes careful screening and training prior to providing care for any client. Each must complete a rigorous selection process that includes national and local criminal background checks, driver’s license verifications, and thorough personal and professional reference checks. All Comfort Keepers are bonded, insured, and covered by Workers’ Compensation insurance to provide our clients with peace of mind, and we strive to hire only the very best caregivers to join our team as Comfort Keepers because we exclusively employ individuals whom we would trust to care for members of our own family.

How is My Comfort Keeper chosen for me? How will I meet my Comfort Keeper?

During the initial conversation and the subsequent in-home visit, the client care manager will meticulously document the required services along with the client’s preferences for an optimal Comfort Keeper match. After that, the client care manager will select the best-fitting caregiver for the client and arrange a formal introduction between the client and the Comfort Keeper, all while striving to ensure that all parties agree and fully understand the services that are to be provided.

Will I have the same Comfort Keeper all the time?

At Comfort Keepers, we aim to provide caregiver continuity in order to foster a strong bond between our client and their Comfort Keeper. However, there may of course be instances during which an alternative Comfort Keeper is required, or due to the degree of care needed, multiple caregivers may need to be assigned to the same client.

What if my Comfort Keeper is sick or on vacation?

Each Comfort Keepers office employs a team of caregivers to ensure that your care service will not be interrupted if someone becomes ill or takes vacation time. If your regular Comfort Keeper is unavailable, the client care manager will arrange for another caregiver and will contact you in advance regarding the change, with any interim caregiver being fully briefed on your plan of care. Our overarching goal is to ensure that services are delivered as expected, with your safety and security remaining our top priority.
