What Every Senior in Vancouver, BC Needs to Know About Healthy Heart Maintenance

Healthy Heart | The heart is essential to your well-being, so what can you do to take better care of it? Three simple changes in lifestyle habits will protect your heart health; they’re diet, exercise, and reduced stress.

Starting with diet, there are specific foods known to improve heart health that can also lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels when consumed regularly.

Foods for a Healthy Heart

  • Fish: Consume cold water varieties, like salmon, mackerel and tuna

Lastly, stress reduction techniques reduce the likelihood of chronic health issues. Keep a schedule that isn’t overwhelming and remember to schedule fun and relaxation each week, too.

  1. Do things you love. Why not do what you love, whether it’s a jigsaw puzzle, a good book, drawing, painting, or another hobby. Enjoy a project that keeps you smiling and focused.
  2. Stay involved. Be social by inviting friends to community programs with you. Join a book club, bridge group or anything that gets you around other like-minded people.
  3. Enjoy some fun. Are you laughing each week? Get creative so you laugh regularly!
  4. Find a style of meditation you enjoy that relaxes your body and melts away anxious feelings.
