Seniors and Alzheimers | December 30, 2019
Signs and Symptoms of Alzheimer’s | It is no wonder that the world of Alzheimer’s research is as big as it is. After all, millions of people across the globe are being affected by this disease. Some of them have been personally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, while others are dealing with their loved one’s diagnosis.
When it comes to Alzheimer’s awareness, the focus has always been on finding the cure. However, early detection of the disease is now receiving more attention than ever and scientists are conducting studies to see just how the brain changes years before severe symptoms occur in Alzheimer’s patients.
It has been estimated that only 33% of seniors diagnosed with Alzheimer’s are aware that they have it and organizations are trying to increase this number. An Alzheimer’s diagnosis is very difficult for every person involved, but identifying it sooner can significantly improve the patient’s quality of life.
Early detection can allow seniors to participate in clinical trials, as well as give them and their families time to prepare for the future and consider all of the care options.
There are numerous early signs of Alzheimer’s that seniors and their families should be on the lookout for. If your aging loved one is forgetting information such as important dates or addresses and is often asking the same question, you should schedule a physician appointment.
Other signs of Alzheimer’s disease are increased change in mood and personality, trouble solving problems, poor judgment and inability to judge distance/space.
