Professional Dementia Care in the Comfort of Home

Comfort Keepers offers expert memory care for seniors requiring Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia care in Edmonton, AB

If you are the primary caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, or any other memory illness, you understand how difficult providing adequate care can be. Comfort Keepers of Edmonton understand the burdens faced by family caregivers and are here to help. Our specialized dementia care plans are custom-made to meet the unique needs of seniors and their families.

For many family caregivers, lack of training and time make providing in-home dementia care challenging. Family caregivers are often working full-time jobs, raising children of their own, and caring for a senior loved one. Our care plans are designed to meet the needs of these families in the Edmonton area, support their senior loved ones, and provide professional care in the comfort of their homes.

To determine the type of care services necessary, family caregivers and their senior loved ones will first meet with a Client Care Coordinator. This staff person will get to know your loved one, their likes and preferences, and the type of in-home care needed. This will help our team match your family with a caregiver best qualified in the Edmonton area.

Care services such as companionship care, meal preparation and feeding assistance, grocery shopping and errands, medication reminders and others are part of our dementia care plans. What makes our approach different is Interactive Caregiving, a person-centred care method that encourages seniors to participate in their own care. Interactive Caregiving is especially beneficial to seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease because it promotes mental stimulation, conversation, and activity.

Our caregivers are specially trained to provide in-home care for seniors with dementia. This can include help with personal grooming and bathing, getting dressed, cooking and eating meals, and getting to doctor’s appointments. Caregivers can provide accompaniment to appointments, take notes for family members or reminding seniors to ask specific questions. If your loved one does not require or need this type of care, our caregivers are happy to provide mobility assistance and then wait for appointments to end before transporting them home.

Care plans are easily adjusted to meet the changing needs of seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia. In-home care can be provided for a couple of times each week, a few hours each day, or around the clock with full-time home care. Our caregivers can help seniors get back into bed or prevent them from wandering during the night. This can help reduce the risk of falls and injury, both common to seniors with dementia.
