Blog  |  November 8, 2015

Seniors require fewer calories as they age, so it is important that the foods they do consume are beneficial to their health. Here is a list of 10 foods that are simple to purchase and prepare, as well as being full of nutrients and vitamins that should help to combat the effects of aging.

Fish: Low in calories and saturated fat, and high in protein and vitamins. 2 meals a week should be good.

Carrots: Daily consumption is a great source of vitamin A, an important antioxidant.

Blue Berries: More than any other fruit or vegetable, helps to reduce high blood pressure.

Eggs: One of the best source of protein for seniors, but don’t over do it, no more than 3 or 4 meals a week.

Milk: A great source of calcium, and helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Red Wine: The occasional glass has antioxidants to help fight off heart disease.

Cinnamon: It is a great source of calcium and fiber and helps lower cholesterol and helps digestion.

Tea: Black tea is one of the healthiest beverages, free of sodium, fat and calories.

Nuts: Only one ounce of nuts can help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Dark Chocolate: Contains antioxidants and a couple of squares a day can help lower blood pressure and risk of stroke.
