I have been so satisfied with the reliability, supplemental care, respect and clinical oversight provided to an elderly friend of mine living in an established care facility.
My friend has been an outdoor enthusiast all her life and now she is benefiting from being taken by a Comfort Keepers registered care aide out for a walk in the sunshine on a regular schedule, in addition to receiving the “extra” measures of comfort throughout this very long period of decline. This is a huge help to both me and my friend’s family in the UK and Norway.  We are kept informed with email updates and pictures of her and feel very fortunate to have Comfort Keepers in her life and ours.

After my mother became ill with a chronic and progressive neurodegenerative illness, she was determined to fight and stay independent for as long as possible. Eventually it became apparent that she needed support, although preferred to stay in her own home with my father. She began accepting services from public home care after a fall requiring surgery that, along with her progressing illness, made her unable to continue functioning on her own. Although she had lots of support through home care, there were limitations to what and how much support they could provide. Our family tried to help as much as possible, but it eventually became too much to manage. We initially enlisted private support with another organization, which ironically increased stress within our family situation. We eventually realized we needed to make a change and decided to try Comfort Keepers after hearing positive things about them in the community.

During our initial meeting with the Parksville director, Darcy, we made clear the challenges we had experienced, and our hopes to find the kind of personalized support my mom needed to remain in her own home on her own terms. Although we were hesitant to start over, I am so grateful we did! Darcy was able to quickly and efficiently facilitate a plan of support that accommodated what we needed. The staff continued to be flexible and accommodating until, and after, my mother passed away peacefully at home.

The entire Comfort Keepers team has been fantastic throughout the time they spent helping our family. Our primary caregiver, Jeannine, brought not only her strong caregiving skills, but a great personality, sense of humor, and a compassionate heart to each and every shift that reflected how much she cares about the clients she works with every day. I want to thank Comfort Keepers Parksville^® for the role they played in caring for my late mother, who lived to be 99 years old. My mom was an independent woman and the staff at Comfort Keepers was an integral part in helping her maintain her independence. As Mom’s needs grew, so did the list of services which Comfort Keepers was able to provide. With the onslaught of Covid-19, delivering care and companionship in Mom’s last few months was difficult and complicated. There were days I felt overwhelmed but Comfort Keepers, at all levels, stepped in to help me access community services which Mom needed. Her caregivers always showed compassion and their daily visits ended with a hug for Mom.

Thanks to Comfort Keepers Parksville my father was able to live in his own home up until the month before he passed away at 89 years old. I am not sure what we would have done without them as none of us three children live on the Island. Comfort Keepers was able to scale their services as my father’s needs grew over the 2 ½ years they cared for him. We are particularly grateful to have had the same person (Brittany) with him most mornings from the very first day to the day he left. She became part of our family. Many thanks also to Joseph who always went above and beyond with his care and help around the house, and to Debbie who became our travel companion at emotional times. We also very much appreciated the nursing care that Comfort Keepers is able to provide when needed – and Liz always brightened up my Dads day with her visits.

Elaine and I thank you for providing homecare/housekeeping services promptly and competently when we needed them. We were very pleased with the workers you sent, with their politeness and eagerness to help us. They not only kept our house clean, they improved it by doing things we should have done but had not (such as scrubbing the ensuite shower). Jeannine and Kirsten were particularly industrious, working efficiently and finding extra work to do in the two hours available.
