Take Control of Your Home Care with CDHCI

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) in Calgary empowers you to manage your in-home care with flexibility. This program, offered by Alberta Health Services (AHS), lets you choose trusted, approved providers and receive reimbursement for services like personal care, homemaking, or respite care. With CDHCI, you maintain independence while ensuring your care meets your unique needs.

What is Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI)?

CDHCI allows you to arrange and pay for home care services directly, with reimbursement from AHS for approved hours. Unlike traditional home care, where AHS assigns providers, CDHCI puts you in control. You select AHS-approved providers, such as Comfort Keepers Calgary, to deliver personalized care based on your needs assessment.

  • How It Works: After an AHS Case Manager assesses your needs, you sign an Invoicing Agreement with AHS. This contract outlines the care hours you’re approved for. Your chosen provider submits claims to Alberta Blue Cross, the program administrator, for reimbursement.
  • Who It’s For: CDHCI suits those who want to manage their care without handling complex tasks like hiring or payroll. It’s ideal for supplementing existing services, meeting cultural or language preferences, or addressing short-term needs like recovery or respite care.

Contact your AHS Case Manager or call Health Link at 811 to explore CDHCI.

How to Get Started with CDHCI

Step 1: Confirm Eligibility

To participate in CDHCI, you must meet AHS Home Care criteria and have stable care needs (exceptions may apply for palliative care). Here’s how to confirm eligibility:

  • Current Home Care Clients: Ask your Case Manager to assess your suitability for CDHCI.
  • New Clients: Call Health Link at 811 to connect with a Case Manager for a home care assessment.
  • Requirements:
    • Meet general Home Care eligibility criteria
    • Have no conflicts with other AHS policies or agreements
    • Be willing to arrange and oversee services
    • Not live in a provider-owned home (to avoid conflicts of interest)

If CDHCI isn’t suitable, your Case Manager will recommend alternatives.

Step 2: Choose an AHS-Approved Provider

Once approved, select a bonded, insured provider from the AHS Client Directed Home Care Service Map. Comfort Keepers Calgary offers personalized care tailored to your needs, such as personal care, homemaking, or respite services.

Step 3: Understand How Direct Billing Works

With CDHCI, your provider handles billing directly with Alberta Blue Cross, reducing your out-of-pocket costs. You or your representative (the Invoicing Agreement Holder) oversee the care plan and communicate with your Case Manager if needs change.
