Health Screenings You Need as a Senior

As men and women alike grow older, there are a number of health screenings that become important for seniors to have. Some of these tests are well known, some may not be. It is an aggregated list of immunizations and screenings that seniors need to maintain health based on the recommendations from the National Institute of Aging and the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force.

Health screenings test for 50 Age of men and women and older

  • Regular check-up is needed for blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • Diabetes tests should need those who have high blood pressure.
  • Colorectal cancer screenings are needed if anyone in the family is a cancer patient.
  • Vision tests need to detect such as macular degeneration and cataracts.
  • Hearing screenings help to determine whether seniors need Aids.
  • Depression evaluations have a role in seniors one lives. It should be corrected in starting stages.
  • Vaccinations can help life-saving for older adults. pneumonia, tetanus, shingles, whooping cough, flu shot are the major vaccinations for the adult ones.

 According to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Health screenings for senior women 

  • Mammograms must be needed for women 50 and older every 1-3 years.
  • Cervical cancer testing is an important test every three years in women between 50-65 age group.
  • Osteoporosis screenings for women 65 and over are to detect bone strength. If any osteoporosis person in the family, these tests should begin at age 60.

Health screenings for senior men

Abdominal aortic aneurism testing is needed for men between 65-75 years old who smoke and also includes smokers who have quit by this age. This one-time test can be a lifesaver.

Regular visits to health care providers determine how often screenings tests should be administrated. Some screening tests are required more often every year and others may be less depending on the health.
