A leading in home care provider

Comfort Keepers has established itself as a leading in home care provider, largely due to the people that comprise our team. Our expert, loving caregivers have a heart for taking care of seniors and older adults and helping them on their path to increased independence in their golden years.

Our caregiving philosophy is that seniors should live as fulfilled a life as possible. Through this approach, known as Interactive Caregiving, our care providers can engage older adults in a myriad of senior-friendly activities that can help them stay in good physical shape, mentally stimulated, and socially active.

To become an in home caregiver, each potential candidate has to pass a detailed background check and undergo specialized senior care training, which prepares them for each segment of caregiving. They also have to have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle due to the nature of the job. It’s important to note that our caregivers also attend mandatory lessons where they can continue learning and improving their skills. This can allow each member of our team to grow and become the best in home care provider possible.

Susan Bridges – “I Am A Comfort Keeper!”

After working several years for a large chain of retirement and long-term care homes in Toronto, Susan was faced with the task of looking after her elderly grandparents. She moved them into her basement apartment and “we were happy” but while still working full-time she found it difficult to care for them. In time, their health declined.  One day after her grandfather had a fall the doctor said they needed 24/7 care and within the week they were both placed in Long Term Care. Susan was heartbroken, her grandparents had never wanted to be in a facility but what other choice did she have?

It was a few months after being placed in the facility that she noticed even more of a decline in her grandfather and that the care level was not adequate. The home was often short staffed, and her grandfather was left in his bed for several days as he was a 2-person transfer and there just wasn’t enough staff to get him up.  Susan came across Comfort Keepers and hired them to be the 2nd person on the transfers and to tend to her grandfather’s needs.

After researching more about Comfort Keepers Susan decided this was her calling and purchased the franchise in 2010 launching a new office in Cambridge Ontario  (near the Cambridge Hospital) and another in Brantford Ontario(in the shared ARTC space). Over the years her business has grown, and Comfort Keepers is now a well-established reputable organization serving seniors in and around Branford and Cambridge Ontario and internationally with 700+ offices worldwide.

“Comfort Keepers embodies the true meaning of comfort keeping and our staff are hands down the best in the business.”

Helping families has been an honor and truly her life calling.  “I can’t explain how wonderful it is to work with someone in the “11th hour” of their life, to be part of these families when they need guidance the most,” Susan said.  “If only I would have discovered Comfort Keepers sooner, I would have been able to keep my grandparents at home where they wanted to be longer.”

Susan is now a Public Educator for the Parkinson’s Society, as well as holding a position on the Board of Directors for the Cambridge Council on Aging and the Advocacy Chair for the Brantford CARP chapter. She is also a member of several other organizations including Elder Abuse awareness.  Susan has been an honored guest speaker at numerous events and brings a wealth of knowledge regarding senior affairs.   She is passionate about providing care for seniors that have difficult behaviors associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and is often asked to consult on cases where public or facility caregivers refuse to service a senior/resident, “its about customer service and what Comfort Keepers “can do”, seniors deserve respect and dignity and we as an organization will do just that.
