Palliative and End-of-Life Home Support in Toronto

Palliative and end-of-life home support helps a loved one stay comfortable at home in their final months, weeks or days. Comfort Keepers provides non-medical support: personal care, familiar routines, companionship, and relief for family caregivers, working alongside your medical and palliative care team, who look after clinical care and symptom management. Call (416) 663-2930 to speak with our Toronto team about non-medical support alongside the care team.

How Non-Medical Palliative Home Support Helps

When someone is nearing the end of life, many families prefer to spend that time together at home. But providing this level of care takes real time, energy and emotional strength, and it can leave those closest to the person exhausted. That is where we can help. Comfort Keepers provides non-medical support at home, alongside your medical and palliative care team, so your loved one is comfortable and cared for and you can focus on being together. Our aim is simple: comfort and dignity, every step of the way.

Personal Care, Comfort and Daily Routines

Day to day, our caregivers help with what keeps your loved one comfortable: personal care such as bathing, dressing and using the bathroom; meals; light housekeeping; and gentle, thoughtful companionship. The focus is comfort and familiar routines, and on helping families make meaningful moments together in the time they have. If around-the-clock support is needed, that can be arranged too. See 24-Hour Care.

Support for Family Caregivers

This is one of the hardest times a family goes through, and looking after yourself matters too. Alongside caring for your loved one, we offer relief for family caregivers, including respite so you can rest during a stretch that asks so much of you. And if the time comes, we can still be there afterward, with practical help such as sorting and moving belongings, and a caring, listening presence for the family. See Respite Care.

How Home Care Works Alongside Medical Palliative Care

It helps to be clear about who does what. Your medical and palliative care team, which may include doctors, nurses, and hospice or community services, looks after clinical care, symptom management and medical decisions. Comfort Keepers provides the non-medical side: personal care, comfort, companionship, and support for the family. The two work side by side, so your loved one has both kinds of support at home. We do not provide medical or clinical palliative treatment ourselves.

Planning Support at Home

If you would like to talk through what support at home could look like, we are here to help, gently and without pressure. Call (416) 663-2930 to speak with our Toronto team about non-medical support alongside your care team.

A note on what we do: Comfort Keepers provides non-medical palliative and end-of-life home support. We do not provide medical care, clinical palliative treatment, symptom management or counselling. Those stay with your medical, palliative and hospice providers, and we work alongside them.
